Here is a list of catfish rigs and how to effectively use them.

The first rig and one of our favorites is the Santee Cooper rig.

You will need the following.

To tie the Santee Cooper catfish rig here is how we do it.

1.We cut around 12″-36″ of the leader line. Depending on current and how high the fish are in the water column.

2.We then tie our hooks to the leader using a Snell knot.

3.We then put either a peg hook or kitty chasers rattling line float on.  We think the best placement is around 3-6″ up from the hook

4.Tie the swivel to the leader line.

5.Run your main line through a sinker slider and follow it with a knot protector.

6.Tie the main line to the swivel and trim the tag line.

7.Lastly, select you sinker of choice and attach it to the sinker slide.

****Do not be afraid to fluff the bait (jig/reel in a little) every 10 to 15 minutes with this rig****

The Three Way Rig

You will need the following

To tie the 3-way catfish rig, follow these steps in order:

  1. Cut 12-24” of the monofilament leader line for your hook of choice and we like to add a peg float or a Kitty Chaser floating line rattle.  Depending on current and how high the fish are in the water column.
  2. Snell you hook of choice to the monofilament leader and trim the tag end.
  3. If you choose to use a float install it 3″- 6″ from the hook.
  4. Cut around 16-32” of the monofilament leader line. Depending on current and how high the fish are in the water column.  ****The sinker line should always be longer than the leader line****
  5. Tie your leader line to the 3-way swivel and cut the tag end.
  6. Tie your sinker leader line to the 3-way swivel and cut the tag end.
  7. Tie you main line to the 3-way swivel and trim the tag end.
  8. Pick your sinker of choice for the situation and attach it to the sinker leader line then cut the tag end.

The Kentucky Rig (Single or double hook)

You will need the following

To Tie the Kentucky Rig, follow these steps:

  1. Cut off 12″- 48″ of leader line.
  2. For a single hook rig in the middle of the line make a dropped loop that is around 5″-10″ long.  For a double hook rig you will want to do the same as for a single hook rig just add another dropper loop up close to there you swivel will be placed.
  3. Install your hook or hooks of choice onto the dropper loops by placing the leader line through the front of the hook then opening the loop and and pulling down the back side of the hook pull the up the front of the hook and pull tight.
  4. Tie on you swivel.
  5. At the bottom of you leader line tie an overhand knot and install you sinker (you can use a snap swivel if you desire).
  6. Tie your now complete Kentucky Rig onto your main line and don’t forget your knot protectors.
